Outline
Kanjincho, one of the most popular programs in Kabuki, is a representative of Japanese literature. At the present time, Kanjincho is known as a story of loyalty based on feudalism. For that reason, GHQ have banned the public performances of the program after the World War Ⅱ. However, originally it is a story about Yoshitsune and his suite, they protested Minamoto no Yoritomo who was in power at the period. Therefore, it is a story of Anti-loyalty or a story around the border line of loyalty / anti-loyalty rather than loyalty. In addition to present issue, various topics regarding to gates – borders are included in this program. Kinoshita-Kabuki interprets Kanjincho as “Various stories over the gates – borders” for new aspect.
